Message from Steve Hagarty, Walk for Life Chairman

On Saturday, January 26, about 50,000 San Franciscans, joined by young and old pro-lifers from as far away as Arizona, Colorado, Oklahoma and Alaska will fill the city’s Civic Center Plaza and Market Street at the 14th Annual Walk for Life West Coast.

KofC Peace Keepers: We need Peace Keepers at the Civic Center starting at 10:00 am. We should finish the walk around 3:30-4:00 pm.

We are not providing security. SFPD has all security responsibilities. Many Peace Keepers will have a radio to communicate with our group and SFPD. Our job is to observe and report, act as crossing guards, help unload buses, give directions, and help assist the people participating in the event. We are not looking for professional security or retired law enforcement officers. We are not allowed to carry any weapons. If you can walk 1.5 miles you are qualified. However, if you are an active or retired Law Enforcement Officer we can have you as part of our security detail for the Bishops, Clergy and VIP’s.

If you are walking with your parish or Council please stop by the sign-up table and pick-up a Peace Keeper vest to show the KofC support for this event. It is vital we get as many Knights participating and wearing the vests as possible. SFPD said they cannot put on the event without our help – that means you.

Our final meeting is January 26 and I’ll have all of the final details, assignments and map.

If you have a high school or college age child or grandchild we get put them in the front of the walk with the high school and college group.
